On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the children of Jijona take to the street with “aixames” (a type of reed torch made of esparto grass, tied with a cord and then swung in circles with flair by the children)to ask for a Christmas gift. A tradition which has lasted through time and which fills the streets with the magic and colour of the “aixames”. Nor should the visitor who wishes to get to know the cradle of turrón better miss the marvellous crib or nativity scene which is set up at the entrance to the town with life-size figures or the spectacular parade of the Three Magic Kings of the East.
